SACRED HEART COUNCIL #4937
PAST GRAND KNIGHT DINNER
Recently, Sacred Heart Council #4937 in Sidney celebrated their Thirtieth Annual Past Grand Knight Dinner honoring Past Grand Knight John Frascatore. Attending the PGK Dinner from the State was State Deputy Ed Castellazzi and his wife Jane, State Secretary Tom Boslet and his friend Cathy, Membership Director Ray Pfeifer PSD and his wife Sara, Secretary to the State Deputy Art Harris and his wife Marlene, Warden to the State Deputy Jerry Connolly and his wife Rosemary, and Administrative Assistant to the State Deputy James Connors and his wife Pat. Also present were: Reverend Father Robert Dwyer, Monsignor James Cox and Reverend Father Gordon Polenz, Sacred Heart Council’s Chaplain.
With approximately 140 Knights, family and friends though out the Southern Tier of New York attending State Deputy Ed Castellazzi recognized the accomplishment of PGK John Frascatore and the members of the council for accomplishing Double Star.
State Deputy Ed Castellazzi also presented Circle of Honor Plaques to: GK Paul Gursky, Monsignor Edgar M. Houlihan Council 4746, Vestal and District Deputy Joe Schlitz, District 78, GK James Dooley, Father Stanley Gerlock Council 11062, Kirkwood and, Chairman of the Board Central Mohawk, District Deputy Len Almy, District 83 and PGK John Frascatore, Sacred Heart Council 4937, Sidney and District Deputy Bob Weitzman District 77.
District Deputy Bob Weitzman acknowledged the Families of the 2007-2008 Columbian Year for Sacred Heart Council. They are Past Grand Knight Paul Summers, his wife Leah and their children and grandchildren and Deputy Grand Knight Al Ayres, his wife Kim and their children. He also acknowledged the Council’s Knight of the 2007-2008 Columbian Year, Dave Reuter.
State Deputy Ed Castellazzi then spoke on the Auriesville Pilgrimage and how special it is to visit such a Spiritual place. Then by surprise, he gave a signal and Ed and his staff put on fake eyeglasses, rubber noses, and fake moustaches. You see for the many years our State Deputy has visited Sacred Heart Council and met with the members of the council. He discovered that many of them if not the majority of them were from another place. So in his infinite wisdom he made mention that now he knows were the people in the witness protection are sent to…Sidney, New York. You see we are men of Christ with a sense of humor!
A great time was had by all; it reminds us that we, no matter where he live in this great state are brothers in Columbianism and in Christ.

DD Bob Weitzman presenting Honorable mention plaque to Lou Palombo of Sacred Heart Council 4937 Sidney This is his story HONORABLE MENTION
This year the Knights of Sacred Heart Council would like to recognize Lou Palombo for his generosity in his support of BIRTHRIGHT of Sidney. The idea of starting a Birthright Center in Sidney started in the fall of 2001. A meeting took place, lead by the Knights of Sacred Heart Council to introduce the concept to individuals of the community who showed an interest in protecting the unborn. After several meetings, it was decided that this type of Pregnancy Crisis Center was needed in our community. To make this Center a reality many pieces of a puzzle needed to be put together such as volunteers, training the volunteers, funding, type of expenses, understanding the guidelines of Birthright International, becoming a 501c3, and of course a location for Birthright of Sidney.
Finding a location was a big concern because along with a location came many concerns such as location, rent, space, and privacy as well as other issues.
At one of the many meetings to put this project together, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a man whose belief in the culture of life and that life begins at inception spoke up and said that he would be willing to donate the use of his house for this important cause. That man is our Brother Knight Lou Palombo. Lou offered to have the following meeting at this house, he than gave the people present at the meeting a tour of the house and it was found to be perfect for this cause.
Now let's go fast forward to today, seven years later. Birthright of Sidney is still located at Lou's house at 40 West Main Street Sidney. Keep in mind, for many women, pregnancy is an emergency. Decisions may be made too quickly, sometimes for the wrong reasons, with the wrong information and without knowledge of the resources available. Birthright of Sidney offers a place where women, often frightened and confused can find loving support by trained volunteers.
During the seven years, Birthright has serviced over 2000 women by providing them with free and confidential pregnancy tests, information on education and housing, pregnancy prenatal care, nutrition and medical care, assisting with layettes, maternity clothes and referring them to professional counseling when needed. To date Birthright of Sidney has supported mothers in giving life to 145 babies.
Because of Lou's generosity Birthright of Sidney has a home and continues to service these women with unexpected pregnancies with compassionate support, empowering these women to carry their pregnancies to term Thank you, Lou Palombo for your continued support and generosity to Birthright of Sidney and the UNBORN.
